Children's Privacy Notice (COPPA)
Last updated: July 24, 2026
This notice explains how we handle the personal information of children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What we collect from children
For a user who indicates they are under 13, we collect only:
- A first name or nickname (a real full name is not required);
- An email address to operate the account;
- A birth year (to determine whether parental consent is required);
- A parent or guardian's name and email address;
- Learning progress created by using the Service (scores, XP, badges, practice-test results);
- A one-way, salted hash of the device's IP address and browser name, used only to count how many people visited the site. It cannot be reversed into an IP address, it is never used to identify or profile anyone, no cookie is involved, nothing is shared with any third party, and it is deleted after 150 days. This is the “support for internal operations” use that the COPPA Rule permits, and we describe it here so the list above is complete.
We do not require a child to disclose more than is reasonably necessary to use the Service, and we do not use children's information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the study tool.
Parental consent
When a student signs up, they enter a parent or guardian's name and email address. We create a locked, inactive account record and immediately email that parent or guardian an approval link. No child can use the Service, and we send no progress emails, until the parent clicks that link; for a child under 13 that click is how we obtain parental consent. The approval email itself states what information we collect about the child and links to this page, which explains how to withdraw consent at any time. We recognize that email approval alone is not one of the verifiable parental consent methods listed in the FTC's COPPA Rule; because this is a free, non-commercial study tool that collects only what is needed to run it, we rely on that email approval as our consent step, and we delete any unapproved account and its data after 30 days. If we ever learn we have collected information from a child under 13 without the required consent, we will delete it.
Parental rights
As a parent or guardian, you may at any time:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child;
- Request a copy (an export) of that information;
- Direct us to delete your child's information and account;
- Refuse further collection or use of your child's information (which may require closing the account).
To exercise these rights, email privacy@satgameprep.io from the address on file, or sign in at the parent dashboard, where you can review your child's account and delete it. Copies (exports) of your child's information are provided by email on request within 30 days. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity as the parent before acting.
No third-party advertising
We do not permit third-party advertising or behavioral tracking directed at children. We do not sell or share children's personal information.
